Fushigi
Yuugi |
 |
Year
produced: 1995
Genre: Adventure / Romance / Fantasy
# of episodes: 52
Rating: |
| This
is one of the very first few anime I've ever watched. I saw
this back in 1999 when I came to the US for my first time. It
was my sister who showed it to me and I got hooked pretty fast.
I loved the comedy and adventure but the romance was quite annoying.
Nevertheless, it's a great anime for shoujo anime lovers. |

Cardcaptor
Sakura |
 |
Year
produced: 1998
Genre: School / Romance / Magic
# of episodes: 70
Rating: |
| I
first heard about this from a friend back in Singapore, and
I finally saw it for the first time on TV one Saturday morning.
The big-eyed girls and boys style isn't my thing but I did end
up watching the entire series after borrowing the VCD from a
friend when I went back to Indonesia for a month. It was pretty
enjoyable despite the over-girliness. |

Kyou
Kara Ore Wa |
 |
Year
produced: 1992
Genre: School / Comedy
# of episodes: 7
Rating: |
| A
short old anime but absolutely funny and memorable!! It is an
OVA and has an abrupt and weird ending but I can never forget
how much this anime made me laugh! I feel nostalgic even just
thinking about it! Highly recommended for fun comedy anime lovers! |

Cowboy
Bebop |
 |
Year
produced: 1998
Genre: Sci-fi / Action / Comedy
# of episodes: 26
Rating: |
| I
actually saw this entire series in the English dub. =.= I started
watching this thru' some tapes a friend lent me and they were
dubbed. Plus, at that time the anime rental store only had the
dubbed ones so for me to continue watching the series I just
had to endure it. A good anime for all to watch. It's got a
good balance of action, comedy and drama. No wonder it makes
its name so easily here in the US. |

Fake |
 |
Year
produced: 1996
Genre: Yaoi / Comedy
# of episodes: 1
Rating: |
| This
is my 3rd yaoi anime. I first saw it when I happened to find
it in the anime rental store and was shocked they actually had
yaoi at all! I rented and watched immediately. It was dubbed,
so the voices were weird but I LOVED the anime regardless! Later
I managed to download the anime and watched it in Japanese.
Great yaoi romance anime!! <3 |

Kizuna
~Koi no Kara Sawagi~ |
 |
Year
produced: 1994
Genre: Yaoi / Drama
# of episodes: 1
Rating: |
| This
one goes in line with Fake. An older but very enjoyable anime.
It's got many sweet moments and some drama stuck in every corner.
It's a short OVA but at least it's got a complete story with
a good ending =) A must for all yaoi fans! |

Great
Teacher Onizuka (GTO) |
 |
Year
produced: 2000
Genre: School / Comedy
# of episodes: 48
Rating: |
| I
first saw this in Singapore but I got to watch the entire series
only after I came to the US. The main character Onizuka is just
someone no anime fan can ever miss. A very fun character with
a very enjoyable personality makes his anime fun and enjoyable
as well. ^^ |
|
Naruto |
 |
Year
produced: 2002
Genre: Action / Comedy / Adventure
# of episodes: 180+ & ongoing
Rating: |
| I
started watching this after hearing about it from a friend in
Singapore who cosplayed as Kakashi (the guy on the right in
the pic). Naruto is very easy to get into for a start and it's
highly action-packed. Ignoring the fillers, it's got a good
storyline with tons of fun characters. |

*Top 5 Best* Fruits
Basket |
 |
Year
produced: 2002
Genre: Comedy / Drama
# of episodes: 24
Rating: |
| My
top five favorite anime of all time. Fruits Basket is very enjoyable. There isn't really a true plot until maybe
near the end but each and every single episode is light hearted and fun.
I guarantee it'll put
a smile on your face for days. =D |
|
Trigun |
 |
Year
produced: 1998
Genre: Sci-fi / Action / Comedy
# of episodes: 24
Rating: |
| I
was lucky I got to watch this after borrowing the entire DVD
set from an American friend. I think I watched it all in either
one or two sittings. It was so fun spotting the Trigun black
cat in every episode, I even wrote it down! A good anime with
nice action, comedy and drama. |

Get

 |
Year
produced: 2002
Genre: Action / Comedy
# of episodes: 49
Rating: |
| Man,
I was once SOOO into this. O_o Now that I think of it I wonder
why. It's a good anime and I like the artstyle and characters
but I think the actual storyline wasn't actually that
great. It's the one anime in which I actually LOVE the fillers
more than the actual story episodes. |
|
Hikaru
No Go |
 |
Year
produced: 2001
Genre: School / Historical settings
# of episodes: 75
Rating: |
| I
started watching this cos' I heard that a friend in Singapore
was very into it. And so I downloaded it and watched, and got
pretty into it myself right around episode #16. The entire anime
is about nothing but Go, an ancient board game. It gets very
insanely detailed when it comes to how the game is played, which
I have no interest in so I didn't pay attention to that. Strangely
enough, the anime still managed to keep me interested. I recommend
this only for those who're willing to give it a try. |

Prince
of Tennis |
 |
Year
produced: 2001
Genre: Sports / School / Comedy
# of episodes: 178
Rating: |
| To
the fangirls, this anime is more about the boys than the sport.
=P There're over 80 characters altogether and 90% of them are
boys. What more can a girl want? Pst pst... yaoi.... XP Now
see why it's so popular? =P Anyway, this anime is one of those
rare ones whose anime version is actually WAY better than the
original manga. The art also looks better and got more humor,
even really cute chibi-chara filler episodes. |

Full
Metal Alchemist |
 |
Year
produced: 2003
Genre: Action / Adventure/ Comedy
# of episodes: 51
Rating: |
| It
was my ex's younger brother who introduced me to this anime
and I was into it for a while. The alchemy thing was entirely
new to me so it was very interesting to begin with. It's got
a mix of sad and funny moments, sometimes even dark or disturbing,
but in the overall it is a good anime. |
|
*Top 5 Best* One
Piece |
 |
Year
produced: 1999
Genre: Action / Adventure/ Comedy
# of episodes: 260+ & ongoing (?)
Rating: |
| The
BEST anime I've ever seen. The first episode
was unimpressive, but after that tit was full-on addiction.
You must NEVER judge this anime by the art, and definitely NOT
the first episode. People who cannot cross that border will
never be able to appreciate this awesome anime. Not only is
it hilarious, it's also touching it made me cry several times.
And of course, the neverending action is something all action
lovers would enjoy. Highly recommended. |

*Top 5 Best* Full
Metal Panic! Fumoffu |
 |
Year
produced: 2003
Genre: School / Comedy
# of episodes: 15
Rating: |
| This
is definitely one of the most damn popular comedy anime ever
even tho' it has fewer episodes. It's the parodical version
of the actual series Full Metal Panic, and is certainly one
to enjoy and laugh over for people of all ages. I saw it after
someone over the net introduced it to me, and I'm glad he did.
Highly recommended. |
|
*Top 5 Best* Samurai
7 |
 |
Year
produced: 2004
Genre: Sci-fi / Action
# of episodes: 26
Rating: |
| For a long time this was my #1 anime, until I remember there's still One Piece (LOL). It has a
unique mix of history and sci-fic, made with a combination of 2D and 3D animation. An anime of the famous literary movie
Seven Samurai by Kurosawa Akira, but unfortunately Samurai 7 is way underappreciated. As far as I'm concerned it goes in line with One Piece. Highly recommended. |
|
Bleach |
 |
Year
produced: 2004
Genre: Action / Comedy
# of episodes: 80+ & ongoing
Rating: |
| A
rival anime to Naruto. It's younger than Naruto
but the series is popular enough to officially
brand Bleach as a rival. Like most action anime, this one's
full of fighting, one stage after another. For those who love
Naruto you 'have' to watch this just because. It's now just a 3-star cos' recently it's plunged down pretty badly. |
|
*Top 5 Best* Slam
Dunk |
 |
Year
produced: 1993
Genre: Sports / School / Comedy
# of episodes: 101
Rating: |
| The
BEST sport anime I've seen. Also my top 5 favorite of all time. This anime actually got me somewhat
into basketball and made me go for an NBA match!! O_o Of course,
I didn't know nought about basketball and to be honest I'm not
that interested but this anime taught me many things and opened
my eyes to the sport. Awesome in the sport and full of fun comedy. Highly
recommended. |
|
Yakitate
Japan |
 |
Year
produced: 2004
Genre: Food / Comedy
# of episodes: 69
Rating: |
| An
online friend from Singapore introed me to this, saying how
funny it is for an anime entirely about BREAD. This will very
easily get anyone into it cos' of how 'original' the theme is.
Ultimately, watching this anime will help you learn a lot more
about bread than the average person ever will. Hahaha! Full
of comedy and educational value. |
|
Monster |
 |
Year
produced: 2004
Genre: Drama
# of episodes: 74
Rating: |
| This
is probably the deepest anime of any I've ever seen.
A very dark and potentially 'scary' psychological thriller anime,
Monster is a definite one to watch for people who like thinking
deeply about a storyline. This is NOT a kid's anime and is actually
very complex. Recommended for people who seek
a NON typical, serious anime. |
|
Jungle
wa Itsumo Hare Nocchi Guu |
 |
Year
produced: 2001
Genre: Comedy
# of episodes: 26 + 12 + 14
Rating: |
| A
series broken into 3 seasons, this jungle anime is as funny
as it goes! This is the ONLY anime in which my #1 favorite character
is a GIRL!! Unfortunately, not knowing the Japanese language
may actually cut down the humor in half since a lot of it comes
from the girl whose language is just ridiculously hilarious.
Nonetheless, this is a great stress reliever and a must watch
for comedy lovers! |

Final
Fantasy 7: Advent Children |
 |
Year
produced: 2005
Genre: Action
# of episodes: 1
Rating: |
| I
wondered if I should include this in here but heck, I suppose
why not! This isn't exactly an anime, as you can see, but a
fully 3D animated and rendered movie made for FF7 gamers. Cause
of this, I will not recommend this for those who've not played
the game, but otherwise, it's a definite must. The
story's all right, but there's no way you'd wanna miss an awesomely
fully rendered animation like this now do you? =D |
|
Samurai
Champloo |
 |
Year
produced: 2004
Genre: Action / Adventure / Comedy
# of episodes: 26
Rating: |
| I've
heard about this for the longest time but never got around to
watch it until a friend told me I really should. So I did, and
yes, it is good. O_o It's got its own sense of humor, nice action and highly favorable characters, as expected from the makers of Cowboy
Bebop =) Highly recommended. |
|
Gakuen
Heaven |
 |
Year
produced: 2006
Genre: Shounen-ai / School
# of episodes: 13
Rating: |
| I
realized there's this new yaoi series one day when I had the
urge to HAVE to watch yaoi all of a sudden after about 3 months
of absence from anime. There're a few shounen-ai (soft yaoi)
series so far but they all suck, seriously. Most yaoi/shounen-ai
anime are also cheesy and typical, and this is too but
it's not too bad ^^". In the overall it's quite cute,
accompanied by a couple good looking boys. Lightly recommended
for yaoi fans. |
|
Ouran
High School Host Club |
 |
Year
produced: 2006
Genre: School / Comedy
# of episodes: 26
Rating: |
| Like
Fruits Basket, this one's a very enjoyable comedy anime recommended
for all. Every single one of the characters is fun in their
own way and would definitely grab your attention. It can be
pretty addictive - once you start, it may be hard to stop. =P
Mostly episodical. A good stress reliever. |
|
Viewtiful Joe |
 |
Year
produced: 2004
Genre: Action / Comedy
# of episodes: 52 (?)
Rating: |
| Viewtiful Joe is based on the original Viewtiful Joe video game for the PS2. Made for young children, this anime is really silly and cheesy, but you'll be surprised at how enjoyable and funny it still is! Its plot can be explained in one sentence - Joe wants to save his girlfriend. It's a really straightforward story but man, it's just surprisingly enjoyable even for young adults. Unfortunately, it is practically impossible to find this anime in Japanese + subs anywhere, so I never got to finish it. (I'm only at ep 6) |
|
Death Note |
 |
Year
produced: 2006
Genre: Suspense / Mystery / Fantasy
# of episodes: 37
Rating: |
| From the best manga ever written comes one of the best anime for people seeking a good suspense story. Sticking strictly close to the manga, Death Note's anime proves to be equally good so far. This is no typical suspense anime since it includes fictional aspects like death gods and the ability to kill just by writing on a notebook, but this is exactly why it is so unique. Highly recommended for all. |
|
Nodame Cantabile |
 |
Year
produced: 2007
Genre: Music / Comedy / Romance
# of episodes: 23
Rating: |
| This is actually my very first orchestral music anime. It's refreshing, light-hearted and funny. Best of all, all the characters are enjoyable and fun to watch, including the female main character (which is a rarity for me LOL). As anti-hetero as I am, the romance in this anime is still very much endurable, and it is sweet. So all you romance slash comedy suckers should totally love this. =P |
