Q1:
Where are you from exactly?
I was born in Indonesia but I grew up in Singapore since I was 5 as my parents
sent me there to study. Cos' of that I hardly ever use the Indonesian
language anymore and I can now barely speak it. When I was 17 I went to the US for my college studies and graduated Spring 2006. Currently, I'm back in Singapore, finally settled (or so I hope).
Q2: Who is
closest to you in your family?
I would say my sister. I was a lot younger, it was two younger cousins
of mine, one boy one girl. Q3:
What was your childhood like in Singapore?
During primary school, the most enjoyable memories were the times
I spent with my younger cousins. As kids, we loved to create original characters and we had fun role playing them. My guy cousin was also the one who 'introduced'
me to fighting games and got me obsessed as well. =P Unfortunately during Secondary
school, me and my guy cousin grew distant.
Later I also got a boyfriend and the rest of those years was
mainly just me and him. Unsurprisingly, we were both crazy bout
games and... yeah... at least one third of my childhood was all games.
^^"
Q4: So what
game was it you're so crazy of?
It started with the Street Fighter series back in primary school,
but by the start of Secondary school, nothing beats King of
Fighters.
Q5: You seem bloody obsessed with YAOI. Can you explain this?
Mwahahahaha!!! It's true. There's NO one day I don't think about
yaoi. I first learnt about it 'accidentally' on the internet back
when I was 14. Sweeeet memories. =P I was pretty into Gundam Wing
back then cos' it was really the first anime I watched since I was
4. So I looked around the internet for pictures and stuff and came
upon the word 'fanfiction'. I had no clue what that was but I clicked
on it anyway, and a list of links appeared. So I clicked on one
of the links and realized it was a page full of text, and I read
it. Then I found out it's just a story, so I kept reading until
I was confused about who this character is cos' I couldn't tell
if it was a guy or girl. Later I saw this warning in bold red -
WARNING: YAOI!! Well, wth does that mean? So I clicked on it and
read that fanfiction and I thought it was way weird. Later, on that
same homepage I saw the definition of yaoi and it finally clicked
in my head. Before that happened though, I SO remember calling my
boyfriend to ask "Hey, is Duo gay???" MWAHAHAHAHA!!! OMG!!!
He was like "What?? Where the hell did you get that??"
Hahahaha!! Man... now that I think of it it was SO DAMN FUNNY!!
Anyway, so that was the beginning of it all. I wasn't
disgusted, I was drawn into it instead and I couldn't stop reading more
of such fanfictions. Later when I was 15 and had my first website,
I met a female visitor who was also a King of Fighters fan. She
had her own website as well and I took a look at it. It was based on a
yaoi manga and after reading some of her fanfictions,
I got interested myself. One random day, I was in a comic shop
randomly looking around for that series thinking that they can't impossibly
have it when I actually found it. I was head over heels and I bought as
many as I could afford immediately. That became my very first yaoi manga.
Eventually, I got obsessed with more and more manga and my collection grew. In the end, I
started associating practically everything with yaoi, especially anime, manga and games.
That obsession never ended, as I'm still very much obsessed right here right now.
Q6: What
places have you been to?
To be honest, I don't fancy traveling cos' I'm too stingy for that. Air tickets are bloody expensive, as well as accomodation. I don't love traveling enough to actually be willing to spend all that money. However, if I don't have to spend much/a single cent, I wouldn't mind. :P However, I would refuse to travel alone no matter what. Also, I'd be too lazy to figure out how to get to places I've never been to all by myself, cos' I'm afraid of getting lost. ^^;
When I was younger, anywhere I went everything was sponsored so I never had to worry about them oney. So far, I've lived in Indonesia, Singapore and
the US. In the US, I've only been to California (Los Angeles, San
Franciso, San Diego), Nevada (Las Vegas), Oregon (Eugene, Portland,
Florence) and Washington (Seattle). When I was 11, I went to
Malacca in Malaysia during a school trip. I also have relatives in Johor Bahru (Malaysia)
so I've been there a couple of times. At age 16, I went to
Mauritius, a little island country to the east of Madagascar, with
my grandmother to visit my eldest cousin who got married to someone
from there. Everything was covered and I didn't even have to spend
a single cent, so yeah, consider me lucky =P At age 18,
I went to Japan once with my family for like 3 days. It was on the
way back from America to Singapore. At age 22, for the first time in my life I flew by myself and by my own money to a country I've never been before - New Zealand. I went there to meet with a close online friend I've known for 2 years and stayed there for 2 weeks. =) That was the only travelling I've done by my own will (aside from the San Francisco trip in April 2007) and I enjoyed it lots, not exactly because I love travelling though, but because I finally met my friend. =D
Q7: Do you
have a lot of friends?
Not really. I have a number of acquaintances but I don't have more than 5 friends whom I meet regularly with.
I used to also be rather anti-social (cos' I like staying at home and playing games/chatting online) but now I'm more of an outgoing person, I think. :P
I used to also have a lot of online friends but cos' recently I'm less active around my Devil May Cry site/community I'm no longer as close as I used to be with some of my online friends. But I definitely must say that there are some of them whom I highly regards as my friends, especially those that I've met in person.
Q7: What
do you like and hate most about yourself?
Just a few months ago I totally hated my size and complexion, but now I'm entirely happy with both ^_^. So in short, I don't think I have much to complain about myself and my life at this moment cos' as far as I'm concerned I'm living a very happy and contented life. I love to be me and I always behave the way I do in front of anybody.
I don't hide anything or try to be someone I'm not just to 'fit in'.
But of course, I'm sure there are a few other things about me that I prolly can/should change but
the thing is, it's quite impossible to change cos that's the way I am!
For example, I am naturally LOUD. I talk loud, I laugh
loud and I usually don't realize so until it's too late. Back then, this often troubled my roommate who often had to tolerate my singing in the night when she's about to sleep. ^^" I felt REALLY bad whenever she came knocking on my door asking me if I could quiet down. When I talk/laugh too
loud in public it also embarrasses my sister/friends, and I'd
just go "Er... oops. Sorry." Oh, I
also dislike my tendency to forget people's birthdays; the only way I'm using to sort of fix this is to use Mozilla Sunbird to note down everyone's birthday.
Yeah... things like that. >_>;
Q8: Explain
your obsession with virtual guys Vs real guys.
I used to idolize some Japanese celebrities but it didn't
last long cos' it seems that I can only be obessesed with
virtual dudes. Most of their appearances are idealistic and they come in all types and styles, free for you to choose and adore based on your own favorite types. With virtual characters, it is not surprising for someone to have more than one favorite character of different looks/nature/type. At the same time, what you like seeing in virtual characters is not necessarily what you'd like in a real guy for a real relationship, because as far as I'm concerned, there is a very thick line between virtuality and reality. I'll never bring anything across from virtuality to reality.
The other reason why I lean towards virtual dudes is because I associate yaoi
with them. I don't do that much with real people because real people are either straight or gay/bi by fact. You don't/can't come up with various stories and fantasies when you already know for a fact that the boy/man you fancy in a yaoi relationship is straight. Virtual characters, games, anime and such are fictional and yaoi is fictional which is why it works best in a virtual environment.
And since my yaoi obsession is a huge part of my life and virtual characters bring yaoi
to me, naturally I get obsessed with them. It's really only all
in the head. Mind you, I still like real dudes and I would point out to any real guy on the streets that I find hot. But, I can't be arsed to do anything more than that, for many other reasons as well but for now, let's just say that I can't be bothered with obsessing over real guys who can't fulfill my yaoistic fantasies. =P I'm weird, I know, and I'm damn proud of it.
